“I’m not a Christian anymore,” my friend said via text.
What? I thought. How could you? I mean…I understand walking away from a church, the church, various believers or Christians in general. But to walk away from Jesus? To say, “yeah, I believe You’re the Son of God and died on the cross for my sins…Oh wait, no you didn’t.”
How is that even possible? How could you say that to Jesus? The verse about many believers falling away in the end times kept ringing in my mind (Matthew 24:10).

Next, the Camp Mystic thing where an entire cabin of the youngest campers, eight year old girls and their counselors and the camp director, and others were all swept away in the Texas floods, was something I struggled to stomach. How? Why? Such questions asked of God never satisfy. And yet, I felt as if God was trying to get our attention. And for the first time, in a long time, I couldn’t actually find the verse in the Bible I knew was there. It was the one that speaks about natural disasters increasing in the world in the end times. But perhaps through those dear Camp Mystic girls, God was trying to tell us to be ready, because we never know when our end might come.

I spoke with a lady recently who said she and her husband lost five close family members within a very short time. After that, they drastically changed their own lives to focus on relationships. She changed her job so she could have the summers off. She took a pay cut. She took less responsibility. She moved down the ladder, in order to be able to be there for her kids, mentally and otherwise.

Through that and some other conversations recently, I feel the Lord leading me to laser focus my own life, in order to do the things that matter most, well. Our lives are short and kids grow up fast. “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalms 90:12). Lord, teach us to do what matters most and not what doesn’t. Let us be wise in our choices of how to spend our time! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
