Did you know that Pippa Middleton, the younger sister to the Princess of Wales, is married, with three children, and lives in a thirty bedroom manor near Prince William and Kate? Why do people follow the Royal family? Because they live such dreamy lives? Because they set the fashion for the world? Or because secretly, we think they live lives of ease and comfort? And perhaps part of us longs to be Royal, to be taken care of by servants and well provided for. Somewhere along the way, we have fallen prey to the lie that money buys happiness.
Does money buy happiness? Of course not. “Everyone knows money doesn’t buy happiness. But everyone thinks they’d be a little happier with a little more money” said Jeff Seagraves from Primerica Financial Services. The Bible speaks of people who appear to have everything, but still are dissatisfied.
“A man to whom God has given riches and wealth and honor so that his soul lacks nothing of all that he desires; yet God has not empowered him to eat from them, for a foreigner enjoys them. This is vanity and a severe affliction” (Ecclesiastes 6:2).
Why would a person not be satisfied with more? We all know the answer: because more stuff doesn’t satisfy. I confess, I think the royals are always smiling and wearing cute outfits and I mean, most tabloids make their lives look dreamy! The Middleton girls, both Kate and Pippa, appear happy and content in interviews or even video coverage.
But who really knows the truth about their lives? Hardly anyone. Possibly, not even them. It might be lovely. But it might just as possibly be a nightmare. But there’s one true hero, who has all the money in the world and can actually make your dreams come true. As cheesy as it sounds, it’s true. It’s Jesus. But very few of us actually trust Him with our dreams. Very few of us actually trust Him at all. Therefore, very few of us actually follow Him fully.
He has access to the cattle on a thousand hills. Not only does He have access to all the money, Jesus has access to all the people. Psst, He created all the people! If you want to be on Broadway, He knows who to call and how to get you there. Whatever your dream, He can make those God given dreams come true. Trust Him today and follow Him daily.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
